MBBR is a packaged wastewater treatment plant.

It uses a biological wastewater treatment process with high biomass concentration. As wastewater flows through the system, microorganisms on the synthetic 25-year media break down pollutants like BOD, TSS, ammonia, total nitrogen, phosphorus, COD and more.

The result is a highly efficient wastewater treatment process with a lower up-front cost, smaller footprint and lower ongoing maintenance than many alternatives.

If you’re above capacity, can’t meet your discharge permits and can’t afford a new lagoon, MBBR helps you stay compliant. Whether it’s a standalone plant or integrated into your existing system, MBBR treats wastewater more efficiently.

Other features include:

  • Works for new installs, lagoon retrofits and expanded capacity
  • Decentralized and modular, so it’s scalable for phased growth
  • Solid, quality stainless steel with industry-leading 5-year warranty
  • Outdoor, indoor and underground options, including fully customizable exteriors
  • MBBR only requires a 20-foot easement thanks to a submersible blower and aerated treatment process.

Have specific wastewater requirements?
We also offer the Membrane Bioreactor (MBR).

MBBR packaged plants have a lower up-front cost than many other options for a few reasons:

Smaller footprint. MBBR requires significantly smaller tank volumes and less infrastructure than conventional activated sludge or lagoon systems. Water flows continuously through the system — rather than being stored for batch treatment — so there’s no need for extended retention areas. This reduces excavation, concrete and site development costs.

Manufactured offsite. By manufacturing your MBBR system offsite, we significantly reduce costs through faster, more efficient assembly in a controlled environment. This minimizes expensive onsite labor and avoids weather delays.

Installation is simple. The system is transported to your location, where a concrete pad is poured in advance. The modular units are then installed quickly and efficiently.

Space limitations don’t have to mean treatment limitations.

If your current wastewater treatment system is landlocked and you can’t add more lagoons, consider MBBR. You can add treatment capacity to an existing system or replace it entirely for higher-capacity treatment in the same footprint.

One of our clients swapped out their old system for a new MBBR plant that is 66% smaller than the original lagoon system.

An MBBR system can be 4 to 10 times smaller than a traditional lagoon system, depending on your treatment requirements.

Lagoon systems rely on passive treatment and often struggle to meet modern effluent standards without major expansion.

You won’t need a degree in engineering. MBBR can be run by a Class II operator and only requires only a few hours a week on-site.

We offer solid technology that just works, and we stand by it with our industry-leading 5-year warranty. There are fewer moving parts. It’s made from stainless steel. We don’t use chemicals, so there are no chemical replacements needed.

Because the biofilm grows on suspended media instead of large, fixed surfaces, there’s less unwanted buildup and fewer components to clean or replace. With less sludge, there will be a lower frequency of hauling and disposal.
